BNHS: 54 Years of Committed Service

Basud National High School (BNHS), one of the performing Public Secondary Schools in the Division of Camarines Norte, was founded on 1966 at the time when the father of Barangay High School, Mr. Pedro Orata, pioneered the said type of public high school system in the country.

In June 1966, through the initiative of Hon. Marcos T. Flores, Jr., the Basud Municipal Mayor and the Municipal Council approved the creation of a high school, In consonance with Republic Act 6566, which paved way to the establishment of barrio high schools throughout the country. It was then named Basud Rural High School.

Mr. Mariano M. Fontanilla, the principal of Basud Elementary School, became the administrator of the school from 1966 to 1970. Later, in 1967 Mr. Toribio S. Jovellanos, the Schools Division Superintendent of Camarines Norte appointed Mrs. Evangelina P. Ong as the Teacher in Charge. Then in 1970, Superintendent Aurelio Pontillas appointed her as Secondary School Head Teacher.

The school started with only three teachers namely: Ms. Leonida Layosa, Mr. Gerundio Ababa and Mr. Francisco Lagatuz. They started from scratch. Because of lack of financial assistance, classes were conducted in makeshift classrooms. “Sinala-sala” which was made from coconut leaves where used as walls with nipa as roofs.

The first graduates of school were twelve (12) males and seventeen (17) females. Lea Aquino was the Class Valedictorian and Victoria Reyes was the Salutatorian. Mr. Jaime Zamudio Sr. was the First-Parent Teacher Association President.

In 1999-2000, two extension classes had been created at the barangays of Taisan and Mambalite. On the following year, the extension class at Caringo had been realized. At present, the first two extension classes had been approved by DepEd as independent regular schools.

When Mrs. Evangeline P. Ong filed for a leave, Mrs. Nenita P. Ramos took over until 1996. It was in the same year when Mr. Roger O. Carrido was assigned as Secondary School Head Teacher III of the institution. Few months later, he was promoted to Principal I.

Because of an enormous increase of enrolment, Mr. Carrido facilitated the creation of extension site. With the help of Basud Local Government Unit under Hon. Nonito S. Flores, the other campus was realized. It was named Sergia Pimentel Jarencio Campus in honor of its donor Gregorio Pimentel Jarencio. Mrs. Angelita V. Villasanta was the first Teacher-in-Charge of the campus while Mrs. Nenita P. Ramos became the Officer-In-Charge of the main campus.

Last May 15, 2012, after 23 years of service in BNHS, Mr. Roger O. Carrido was transferred to another school, Mr. Arnilo C. Ibasco, Principal III replaced him.

Mr. Arnilo C. Ibasco stayed in the institution for 6 years where BNHS became Hall of Fame Awardee in the Brigada Eskwela National Level.

On September 24, 2018, Mrs. Milagros S. Tindoy became the school’s principal. Her dynamism as a natural leader brought a predominant difference in the school’s community and stakeholders. In her one and half years as a principal, our school awarded as National Awardee in Brigada Eskwela Plus (The Most Sustained School)  2019; Regional winner in Gulayan sa Paaralan and Regional Qualifier in Wellness Campus.

At present the school has one hundred nineteen (119) teachers, eleven (11) non-teaching and three thousand one hundred thirty (3,130) students.

Likewise, the school has STEM, regular and sports classes. Under the Senior High School Program it has Academic Track composed of Humanities and Social Sciences Strand (HUMMS), General Academic Strand (GAS), Technical Vocational Livelihood Track (TVL) with specialization in Automotive Servicing NC II, Consumer Electronics NC II, Electrical Installation Maintenance NC II, Nail Care/Beauty Care/Hairdressing/ Housekeeping NC II, Organic Agriculture Production/Crop Production NC II and Sports Track.

Basud National High School will forever be a legend in its service for the Basudeños and the Filipino learners as a whole.
